I'm still here (that is, at my house). My journal's kinda languishing, isn't it? I haven't done much. I'm discovering my Martha Stewart side. Today I made cookies. The best part of making cookies is that when I'm done, there're cookies! Of course, there are also pans to scrub, so that's not great. Cookies, though!
Job search is pretty much caput. I'm hoping to go back to school in the fall.
I got a car. And a driver's license, of course. My little car is very cute. It's tan, not beige.
Haven't seen Billy Cecil in a while, either. Isn't he cute! Hi, Billy Cecil!
Good night, all!

Unfortunately, Spot, Jr., my trusty computer, won't be for long. He has been having problems with his plug for some time. Some of them were plug-part related, then replacement plug-part related, but now they are definitely Spot, Jr. related and for some reason no electricity = no computer. So I'd like you all to meet Trip, my new laptop. He's blue. He is a Gateway and you can see his Canadian cousin here. I don't know why there isn't an American one online, but whatever. Maybe Trip should have a French name, in the interest of Canadian political correctness. How about François? Also, before you ask, he was on sale. I don't have that much money. I had to do some creative transfers and the store turned down my check as it is.
What I've been doing: Mostly working at Kohl's, vacating, staycating, and searching for a job. The job search has not turned up any promising offers yet, but I'm still hopeful. I have to be hopeful, or I'll be stuck at Kohl's forever *shudder of fear*.
And now for a few things that are completely different: Nora's bridal shower was lovely, if I do say so myself. A good time was had by all. New York City was great fun, and Wicked was amazing. We also went to New Hampshire, which I always enjoy immensely. Sadly, some of the icons of Daddy's childhood are disappearing. Last time we went Yoken's (thar she blows!) was closed, and this time some of the stores on the casino were gone.
Good night!

School is over. Like, over over. This scares me a lot. I am done all of my exams and everything, and tomorrow all the underclassmen will be moving out. The school has already apparently forgot that we are here, since there are no paper towels in the bathroom, the trash is overflowing, and all of my dining options are conspicuously out of important food items (the ice cream shop is out of ice cream). I still don't know what I'm doing after graduation, besides jury duty, and I'm afraid of that too. My best beloved Mommy is not helping by making me all stressed about moving out. I would like to have a couple of stressfree days before I start worrying again. I didn't sleep much at the beginning of the week, and I'm still making it up. I took an unplanned nap this afternoon and only woke up when I rolled over and knocked the book I was reading off the bed. I don't have much else to say. I did see duckies on the news today. Duckies are cute.

*over it*Billy Cecil returns! I don't know if I ever explained his name. Cecil comes from the Latin word caecus, meaning blind, which I thought was appropriate for a bat, even though bats aren't really blind. He got the first name Billy from William Cecil, the first Baron Burghley, who was Elizabeth I's second in command. He was also something of a spymaster and his daughter married one of the people who might have been Shakespeare (not that anyone knew that at the time).

To the people in Kimball in general: How can you eat and scream at the same time? Why is it necessary to blow whistles?
To the people at the table to my left: There are some things that are better done in private and not two feet from the nose of a complete stranger. Nuf said.
To Billy and his cohorts at the table across from me: What gives you the right to leave your disgusting half eaten dinner ripped into tiny pieces all over the table? I'm sure the students who have to clean up after you were overjoyed to wipe little pieces of hamburger off the table. I'm sure the next person who sits in your chair will enjoy the huge puddle tomato sauce you left there. Looking at your mess made me want to vomit.
The to people at the table behind me: You kiss your mothers with those mouths? I don't think I've ever heard more offensive things about women in my entire life.
To the people at the table in front and to the left of me: Food is not a toy. If public safety comes looking for the person who threw that apple, I will pick you out of the lineup. If I knew your name I would call them right now. Would you like to be known as the person so drunk he gave a complete stranger a concussion?
To Miguel who sat down at the other end of my table as I was standing up: I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.
To the boy who only avoided knocking me flat on my face because I am not drunk: I speak from experience when I say that it is always advisable to look where you are going. I would imagine that this is even more important when you are drunk and your motor skills are impaired. It is certainly not the time to be walking backwards and screaming at your friends.
And finally, to the biggest fecking gobshite of them all, the boy behind me in line for dinner: I do not enjoy you touching me. I do not enjoy you whispering obscenities in my ear. If I had been a more violent person, I would have broken your nose. If I had been a less forgiving person, I would have told the public safety officer at the door that you were harassing me. Should I encounter you in such a situation again, I might.
P.S. You can all feck a cow and die.
P.P.S. Quote for the day: "Chasing girls was easy, and drinking beer was fun" (Shane MacGowan) Yeah, but he dies at the end. Violently.

I am on vaycay. Vaycay is nice. I am also tired, for some reason. I think I was running on the sheer need to keep running, and now several weeks of not sleeping well are catching up to me. I don't really have anything to say here. I just felt like livejournaling. The world appears to be well on its way to hell in a handbasket. The economy is tanking, oil is prohibitively expensive, global warming, subprime mortgages, a war we're probably not going to win, a general hatred of Americans, and the presidential race has rather descended into juvenile squabbling. Also, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with my life. The lady at career services (I finally gave in and made an appointment) said I only have to think about the next two years. But thinking only four years ahead rather backed me into the corner I'm in now, didn't it? And teaching for a few years isn't going to be easy without a master's degree, a teaching certificate, or any experience. However, I don't think I'll cave and attempt to get any of those things until I've ruled out all other options, as all of those things will probably require time and money. I have loans to pay off. And I still have to appease four more psycho professors before I can actually graduate. Also, I've been working on some things for my mom this week, and let me just say, a whole bunch of them don't have masters' degrees or teaching certificates. Or the patience to read the whole form.
P.S. Stop asking me about my future, people!

She requested a rambling, and I was actually thinking about one anyway. Tonight was the 100 Days Ball. As anyone who remembers my senior prom might guess, I was ecstatic. It turned out slightly better than the prom, in that the food was passable and no one made me dance. Unlike the prom, however, I was unable to use the ladies' room, b/c conditions were highly unsanitary and the booze-soaked howler monkey in the line behind me kept trying to get to second base. I took the first bus back to the dorms, and here I am. I can't get this fabulous traffic cone orange bracelet off. The event was snazzy enough to require said orange bracelet, a neon green bracelet, and a hand stamp. Can we say, "overkill," boys and girls?
So, um, yeah. The first couple of weeks of the semester were terrible. I had four papers due last week and three this week. I think there are only two next week. I hope so. My best beloved parents came up last weekend. That was nice. I tried to give up "feck" for Lent, but that lasted until I tripped on the stairs. I don't know what to give up now. Fr. Stempsey says I don't have to give something up, I can start doing something to be a better person. I'd like to be a better person. This morning I fell out of my bed. Everyone who has seen it has predicted this. I am largely uninjured, since I was awake and trying to reach something on my dresser. That's about all of my excitement at the moment. I'm kinda tired, but I had a lot of caffeine, so I don't think I can sleep yet.

Today I learned to make network cables. It's quite fun really.
Tomorrow is something of a special occasion. Of course, I have class, and work. But then Mary and I are going to go out for dinner. I don't know where yet. Whereever I feel like. I just don't want to eat "lite flakey herb chicken" which is actually code for "three breadcrumbs and an unidentified leaf on chicken cooked into leather". Then Kelly is performing in the Gamelan, which is the Balinese dance troupe. That should be exciting.

Yay! I am home for Thanksgiving. Spot, Jr. is backing up at the moment, so I am writing from my daddy's computer (I was having withdrawal symptoms). To the best of my knowledge, this computer does not have a name. It does have a shiny new case and a shiny new Vista. I don't love Vista. I do enjoy being home. It's been a terribly busy month. I've written tons and tons of papers and given a couple of presentations. I also had a bad cold. I went to the longer of my two presentations (15-20 minutes), and I opened by saying that I had a terrible cold and that I couldn't really tell how loud I was speaking, so if someone could just wave or something if I got quiet, I would speak louder. Well, the next day, I got a really nice email from my professor with my grade and everything. She said I did really well and she liked my presentation and so on. Then she said that I talked to quietly. OMGoodness. Anyway, I just wanted to check in before Thanksgiving. In other news, my birthday is coming up next week. Does anyone know of a tasty alcoholic beverage that I can sample once I am of legal age? Wine and champagne are icky. Happy Thanksgiving!

Freaky New Age Pagans and Ancient Celts (*mental tangent*): Happy New Year! I kinda told my mommy I would post again this month. I made it! How is everyone? I've been very very busy. And I'm not done yet. I'm ready for NaNoWriMo, as much as I can be with 34 pages worth of papers due in the next two weeks. I had my flu shot yesterday, which was no fun. It always makes me all achy and fatigued (should be pronounced fat-ee-gewed). I still am actually. I'm going to bed when I'm done with this. Parents came up last weekend. I do love to see them. I did want to say a few other things. I'll keep this brief to make it before midnight, so ask if you want some more information on any of it.
1) The Victorians pretty much ruined the world. 2) Not every sermon has to include a tear inducing story, especially if said story is only tenuously connected to the gospel. Yes, I'm looking at you, Fr. Hayes. 3) Memoirs with a Geisha was about two hours too long. Before you ask, I know it was only two hours and twenty five minutes. 3&1/2) Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was much better than everyone said it was going to be. It met all 3 criteria for a good movie! 4) Did you know that two stars can be in orbit around each other? 5) We started it. 6) People have apparently stopped writing books that are a general study of something, and are concentrating solely on picayune details that no one could possibly understand without a general study book that doesn't exist. 7) Sometimes I think my professors are ganging up on me.

I went to the Chaplain's Office to get a mass card for my cousin's grandma. On the way back, I realized that I asked Daddy for their address so that I could send it, but I did not ask the name of the deceased. This is a problem. Also on the way back, I tripped over a lopsided sidewalk crack and fell on my face. Of course, I brought my hand up to shield my face, so I only bruised my chin. I skinned my right arm about 3 inches along my elbow, scratched up the rest of it, and seriously scratched the palm of my right hand. I also bruised up my left arm, my right knee, and my sternum. Surprisingly, the most painful injury is my left wrist, which was cut up by my watch. Unfortunately, I also squished the mass card a little. I'm flattening it under a book to see if it's savable.

This previous weekend was Family Weekend. Great fun. My Mommy and my Daddy and my Brother Boyo and my Aunties came to visit me. I got to distribute birthday presents for the month of September! Which reminds me, I've got to look into October birthday presents. We hung out on Saturday, took a little tour, and went to the Olive Garden (I <3 the Olive Garden, and my Aunties are not BBQ people). On Sunday we all went to Family Weekend mass, which is a big deal. Then we went to Family Weekend brunch, which is the best food of the whole year. Then we hung out a little bit more. Then everyone had to leave. One of my Aunties is in Ireland this week! After all that, I was very tired, so I went to bed very early last night. Of course, then I woke up very early this morning and could not go back to sleep. Then by the time I was in Astronomy, I was very tired again. I am trying to stay awake a bit longer so I can sleep until a decent hour tomorrow. I do have several errands to do tomorrow though. Class is at noon thirty, so I probably won't do anything before that. Afterwards, I have to go to the Chaplains' Office and see if they do mass cards (my cousin's grandma died). Then I have to do my Interlibrary Loans for my Ancient Sanctuaries class. Then I have to bring Kelly some index cards. I bought a jumbo pack when I took Greek, but I hardly made any, so I still have a couple hundred. I should probably make Ancient Sanctuaries flashcards, there's a slide exam coming up. Anyway, good night, world.

Something kind of disturbing has just come to my attention and I wanted to make it known right away. Facebook has opened up its profiles (our profiles) to search engines. So now anyone who Googles you can find your picture on Facebook. Anyone with a Facebook account (i.e. pretty much everyone on the face of the planet) can then find out everything about you. You can opt out of this by changing your Facebook privacy settings. I'm thinking of closing my Facebook account. It was a good idea, but it's gotten out of control. More later.

Hi! I am tired. Not in the "no sleep" way. Well, kinda that way, but also in the "too much stress" way. I have had a few busy weeks. Last Saturday, Mommy, Kelly's Mommy, Kelly's Friend Amanda, Kelly, and I went to the Big E. It was great fun. I enjoy the Big E. There are cows and sheep and fun stuff to do and, of course, food. It's all about eating. I don't think Mommy really grasped that until we were actually there and having donuts and cider and baked potatoes and soup and ice cream and pie and popcorn. It was really fun though.
Then I got back here and back to reality. I had two essays due Monday in my Genders class. On Wednesday, I had my first midterm exam in Astronomy. Midterm, in this case, meaning during the term, not exactly in the middle. On Thursday I gave a presentation in my Islamic Art class. The sword has yet to fall in Ancient Sanctuaries, and I can only be thankful. However, the opening rounds of the term paper are looming large. One of the requirements is to order something through Inter-Library Loans. They're very unreliable, in terms of time. Anyway, next week shouldn't be quite as bad, I believe the only thing I have due is a midterm essay in Genders due Wednesday.
Of course, a week from today chaos will descend upon Mt. St. James in the form of Family Weekend. This year, the parents will be joined by the brother boyo and the aunties. It should be exciting. I'm gonna have to clean this place up a bit. In my haste to deliver my essays on Monday, I knocked over my root beer. It didn't get on anything, but it was all over the floor. I've chlorox wiped it several times, but it still feels sticky to me. I'm going to have to figure something out for that. I also have to find somethings for us all to do for two days. We've got to go shopping, since I think I have 1 glass worth of milk, 1 hot pocket, and 3 caramels left. And, of course, 6 or 7 bags of chips. When I get my box lunches, I get 2 little bags of chips, and I rarely eat even one of them. Daddy and the Boyo like them, though. I do love a boxed lunch, though. They have good bread. Okay, Now that I've gone off on a food related tangent, I believe it's time for me to go. Have a nice day, all.

I Love the 70s |
] |
Hi! It's been a very long day and I'm very tired. But Mommy has demanded an update. ;) Last night we had no internet for several hours, so I went to bed early. Then I got up early so that I could reread and print out my articles for my classes. Then I went to classes. Three in a row is kinda exhausting, but the subjects are so different that it's okay. Then I ran as fast as I could to the post office before it closed, so I could pick up my parcels! I love parcels. Even if they're just school books. Then I was really tired, since I ran up, by my count, seven floors worth of stairs. See, none of the buildings in the science complex has more than four floors, but the floors don't line up, since it's on the hill. So my class is in the basement of Haberlin, which is the Linden Lane building. The post office is on the first floor of Hogan, which is on Easy Street (yes, the streets on the campus have names. At least, some of them.) So I had to climb up the Haberlin stairs to the second floor, where it meets up with the first floor of Swords. Then I had to climb up to the second floor of Swords where it connects to the basement of O'Neill. I had to go to the second floor of O'Neill, where the Easy Street level exit is. Then I went in the basement level of Hogan and climbed up to the first floor. And I made it in 7 minutes! So I was very tired and I sat around for a long time. Then I went to visit Kelly at the ice cream place and picked up a little dinner on my way. Then I came back and did a little reading and such. And now I'm really tired, so I'm going to go to bed early again. School is hard.
I'm too tired to add up stairs. It's a lot. Believe me.
OMGoodness! Eddie Munster is on I Love the 70's. He looks exactly the same. Except all wrinkly.

Hello. How are you? Seriously, how are you? I had a pretty good weekend. I didn't do much in terms of strenuous activity, which was nice. Yesterday I did some homework and hung out with Kelly (she had brownies, yummy). Today I did the rest of my homework and went to church. Mass began with a lovely almost 15 minute presentation by "Put Your Kneeler Down" Paul on "how we do things here at HC." (I swear, there's something in the water that makes people say "here at HC" instead of just "here". I know where I am!) I got kinda distracted, since it was kinda boring and unnecessary. When confused, people just do what the person next to them is doing, and there's not that much possible confusion in church anyway. Anyway, I was having a less than pretty train of thought. In retrospect, "Sacrifice Rituals in Classical Greece" might not be the best prechurch reading. I realized during the homily that I might be a cafeteria Catholic. I'm going to have to think about that. And perhaps come up with an alternative term. One that people will have a harder time being insulting about. In related news, did you know that there is a Wikipedia category called "Pejorative Terms for People"? I'm kinda tired, I didn't sleep well last night. Good night.

Hi! So. Islamic Art with Professor Luyster was kinda fun. I'm not excited about the oral presentations. But the subject matter is certainly interesting enough. Next week on the syllabus: I have no idea. It's a list of page numbers.
While I was in class, physical plant came to fix my window screen. It's so hot and gross that I was desperate to get it fixed. It was nice of them to be so quick, but that's where the niceness ends. They left a note that it's just a temporary screen until they can get one the actual size of the window (you'd think that'd be something they'd have in stock.) What did they leave a note on? A page ripped out of one of my note books, which they rifled through my bookshelves to find. They made a complete mess of all my books and papers, and I was almost 15 minutes late for an ITS appointment because I couldn't find the hardware repair form.
I then went to the bookstore to get the books I need for the next couple of weeks. Last night I ordered the remainder (about 12 weeks) of the semester online. I spent about $100, give or take a little, last night. Today, getting two weeks worth of books, I spent exactly $176. College is extortion. On the way back from the bookstore, carrying my bags, and my bag from class, and trying to swipe onto the floor, I completely smashed up three of my toes with the edge of the door. I'm not going to be able to wear real shoes for days.
Tonight I did my laundry. I made it eight whole days. Party! The Healy laundry room isn't as busy as the Loyola one. I got two washers next to each other and a dryer in the bottom row (I can't see into the top row. That's how I lose socks and underwear.)
HC has SPUD (and too many acronyms, but that's another discussion), which is the service program. I went to the "SPUD Fair" to try to sign up for something (maybe something with babies). But the "Fair" was more of a "Riot". I thought it would be more like the Activities Fair, which should come around next week, at which everyone will have a tiny table and a sign up sheet. But no, it was a giant crowd of pushing-shoving-yelling people. You might know that I don't like people. So I just left. They always send out a list of extra options next week, so maybe I'll find something in there that I would like to do.
